- In 1984, Mr. Chen graduated from the Lufthansa College of Air Transport Management in Germany. In October 1994, Mr. Chen obtained the special government allowances approved by the State Council. He gained an MBA from Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands in 1995, and a senior management diploma from Harvard Business School in 2004.
- He acted as the aviation advisor for the governor of Hainan Province in July 1990, and presided over the formation of Hainan Provincial Airlines Company. He has served as the chairman of Hainan Provincial Airlines Company, the chairman of the Grand China Air Co., Ltd., and the chairman of HNA Group Co., Ltd. At present, he is the chairman of the Board of Directors of HNA Group Co., Ltd., a member of the 11th Session of the Executive Committee of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and part-time professor at the Civil Aviation University of China, Beijing Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
- He was elected as the member of the Standing Committee of the second session of Hainan Provincial People's Congress, the representative of the 16th, 17th and 18th National Congress Communist Party of China, and a member of the 10th and 11th National Committees of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
